Question about acquiring the Oki C911 / C931

Dear all,

I am a newbie on this forum.
I am currently running a small printshop in Hong Kong with a Konica Minolta C554e, an OK machine for most of the jobs.
But since I'm not getting too much jobs for this machine, I'm thinking of getting rid of it (a good friend would like to take it in a fair price)
Of course, I can't run my shop without a laser digital printer.

I've been reading on Oki's website and considering to get the C911/C931
I know the most difference between these 2 is the C931 can run with the EFI Fiery XF which I already have one for my large format printer.

The thing is I was trying to look deeper about this machine, but seems like I can't find too much user exp. or user review about this machine.
Does anyone own one in here? I want to know if this machine can really take 360gsm paper as the claim.
Also, how's the quality on textured paper?

In Hong Kong, the dealer can only offer 1 year warranty, and I will need to pay $1200USD each year for the extention.
Plus the consumable such as toner, drum...etc, would that be too much?
I'm wonder what's the average cost for a full SRA3 Color Print.

Sorry for having so much question in once.

Best Regard,
Aaron

We have a C911. We have only been using it for envelopes. Make sure you look at the cost of consumables. It uses a lot of toner (color toner is currently about $375 each) and drums are $450 each. If we were to do again, I would look into something else. You will use a lot of toner doing full size color prints.

Thanks for your reply Lou.
I have heard the since the C931 has a bigger toner, so it will cost cheaper than the C911
Is that true?

Also, how's the speed when it prints thick paper such as 250-300gsm?
I get around 8 single side printed per minute with SRA3 paper on my KM C554e right now.

Aaron;

Not sure where you are, in the US the 931 toner is cheaper then the C911. Speed doesn't seem to be an issue, but full coverage will use a boatload of toner.

Dear Lou

I saw a youtube video which shows the C900 series has a special feature to print on textured paper with better result.
Is that true? The video was using the C941, wondering if they had put that feature on the C911.

Thanks
Aaron

Hi, the C911 was only launched in the UK in November 2015. It's identical to the C931 except it doesn't accept the high yield toners (only the standard yield) so it will have a much higher cost per page!

Also according to EFI and OKI, their RIP software should actually work on the C911 although I haven't tried it.

For anyone in the UK, please note that the C931 machine will be discontinued once remaining stock across Europe has sold out. The cheaper to buy but more expensive to run C911 machine will then be the only choice in terms of "open product" machines.

However, get in touch with an OKI ES Partner and ask them about the identical ES9431 machine. Those offer MUCH lower running costs and there are some great deals about.

Cheers

Hi Aaron, I believe you're referring to the YouTube video I filmed - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOKL4ebjV8I

I'm no longer with that company, but feel free to call me if you'd like any specialist pre-sales help. Our number is 0345 84 333 84.

This is a late reply but I am posting for visitors who stumble across this topic.

Don't buy this Laser if you are thinking of high volume printing. The cost of consumables are sky high!

I have had one for only 7 months. Total impressions 60,000. Total cost in consumables £3,500. Do the maths. It is perhaps the most expensive Laser on the market.

I dedicate myself professionally to printing solutions, and in general the experience of my clients with the C931 is quite good because it is a reliable, versatile and simple equipment.
The most important thing is to know the average Coburtura per page that you print, perhaps when you make lots of density, consumables last less.
The C931 also has high capacity consumables, of 38 pages at 5%, and you can find them at a good price.

I am currently looking into this myself.
I have found quite a few toner cartridges for the 911dn on AliBaba for a fraction of the price.
Does anybody have experience with ordering toner cartridges over that platform?
