Mottling Xerox Versant 80

Is it normal for an amount of mottling from a versant? We don't have problems on every job and granted we aren't using the 'branded digital paper' (For the job we had it on) Nor are we running duplex.

We seem to get it more often on solid areas and on some images.

For e.g. 350gsm board manual duplex, running uncoated and coated as one side is bond.

We changed from our custom profile we created for the paper to the default and calibrated to it.

Changed text & graphics quality- best

image smooth: enabled this option.

And also switched between the source profiles.

None of these options really seemed to improve the mottling to any degree. is it the paper we are using or is there other settings besides the job properties/ calibrations we can try out???

When compared to a litho copy of the job everything is drastically smoother - obi this will be the case but the digital version looked pretty bad.

Many thanks!!
