Job purpose


• Use multi-function equipment to process large volumes of outgoing mail for customers. Primary equipment includes inkjet printers, envelope inserters, folders, hot melt glue systems, and card affixing equipment.


Duties and responsibilities


• Set up inserting equipment at the beginning of each job according to specifications provided on the job ticket.


• Operate the equipment.


• Recognize when the output of the operation drifts from specification.


• Troubleshoot equipment problems and make adjustments as required to return output to the proper specification.


• If multiple employees are required to run a particular job on a particular piece of equipment, direct and supervise the work of those employees.


• Communicate status of in-process jobs to managers and co-workers.


• Accurately track time on each job if requested.


• Update and sign-off on job tickets at the conclusion of each job.


• Detect and fix malfunctions in machine.


• Adjust guides, rollers, loose card inserters, weighing machines, and tying arms.


• Clear jams in sorting equipment.


• Keep machine well-calibrated and running smoothly.

Qualifications

Education: High School or equivalent


Specialized knowledge: Inserter operator and setup experience preferred


Experience: Two to five years


Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents (such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals) and to speak effectively to other employees of the organization.


Mathematical Skills: Able to meet basic math skills such as add, subtract, multiply, and divide


Other Abilities: Basic computer skills required

Working conditions


Binderies are often noisy and jobs can be fairly strenuous, requiring lifting, standing, and carrying. They may also require stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Binding often resembles an assembly line where workers perform repetitive tasks.
Under supervision, weekend and holiday work may be scheduled.
Physical requirements


Sitting: Up to one-half hour a day, during an eight-hour shift. Standing: Up to eight hours, during an eight-hour shift. Walking: Within business – to and from LPI Departments. Bending, stooping, twisting of the trunk, and reaching: Up to eight hours a day, during an eight-hour shift. Lifting, pushing and/or pulling: Up to 50 pounds.
Special considerations: Any material weighing over 50 pounds is not required by LPI to be lifted or carried by the individual. It is the individual’s responsibility to request assistance regarding the lifting or carrying of heavier material.
