The Electrical Engineer in the Remote Maintenance Department acts as a subject matter expert on electrical and electronic parts, functions, and software on KBA equipment to our external customers as well as internal customers. The Electrical Engineer answers calls, e-mails, and other forms of communications from external and internal customers and uses various diagnostic equipment, software tools, and processes to remotely troubleshoot electrical and electronic issues, suggest solutions, and identify necessary parts. This is a revenue-generating department requiring excellent customer service skills, verbal communication skills, technical expertise, and effective follow-up.


•Answers and promptly returns calls to external or internal customers needing assistance with electrical and electronic issues.


•Assists the customer, technicians, and parts department in identifying defective parts and appropriate replacement parts.


•Gives full attention to what external or internal customer is saying, taking time to understand the points made, and asking the right questions to garner more information needed to help resolve the customer issue or provide support.


•Researches and analyzes operating and equipment errors to determine possible causes.


• Must be proficient in reading electrical drawing, pneumatic or any other machine drawings to help the customer


•Must be proficient in troubleshooting issues with highly sophisticated industrial automation systems with PLCs, electronic drives & other electronic modules


• Uses logic and reasoning, as well as diagnostic software and tools, to assess strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, and approaches to problems to recommend and most effective solution, cost-benefit analysis, so equipment and technology serves the customer’s needs. Tools may include, but are not limited to, electronic diagnostic instruments such as oscilloscope, multimeter, and power monitoring device when onsite & several software diagnostic tools for remote troubleshooting


•Determines and considers how equipment or system should work and how changes in conditions, operations, and the environment will affect the outcome.

•Confers with engineers, customers, sub-vendors, and electronic module manufacturers, and others to discuss existing or potential electrical, electronic, and/or computer hardware/software issues on KBA equipment


•Writes and documents detailed notes and technical procedures in the Remote Maintenance Database as well as other modes.


•Programs electronic modules and computers as needed.


Tracks and follows-up on open issues with appropriate stakeholders.


•Verbally communicates highly technical issues and solutions to external and internal customers with varying degrees of technical knowledge and abilities.


•Works at the customer site as required by business demand to troubleshoot and resolve electrical, electronic, computer hardware/software issues.


•Handles appropriately proprietary company information and documentation.


•May specialize in particular systems, such as print quality measuring systems, IR/UV dryer, several sub-assemblies for a sheetfed offset printing press, as deemed necessary for business.


•Performs other related job responsibilities as necessary based on business needs.


Desired Skills and Experience


•Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a combination of education and work experience in related field.


•Practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design, production, and operation of applicable equipment.


•Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming.


•Proficient arithmetic, algebra, geometry and other advance math such as calculus and statistics including their applications.


•Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production, blueprints, drawings, and models.


•Excellent reasoning and logic skills to analyze complex technical issues and find solutions.


•Some background or knowledge of printing equipment, processes, and industry preferred.


•Ability to build credible business relationships with customers mainly via phone and electronic communications.


•Excellent customer service skills including patience, attentive listening, and acting with a sense of urgency to resolve customer issues.


•Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to ask the right questions for effective results.


•Written communication skills with the ability to put together logical and complete records, reports, and other documentation. •Strong follow-through on open action items.


•Computer literacy with intermediate knowledge of e-mail, internet navigation, word processing, and spreadsheets.


•Ability to do multi-tasking


•Self learning attitude.


•Knowledge of German language is helpful as many documents and instructions are written in the German language
