That's random, maybe it *is* an AE 14 update, I'm doing marks in reg no problem at all (not that it helps you!). Do you not have the option to select reg in the fill colour in the dynamic marks properties palette? Or are they just coming in filled black? Not trying to teach you to suck eggs, but obviously it will only come in coloured up in the colours that are in the job/available in Ink Manager (and not technical inks?)
