Plate Contracts and how many years should they be?

What is a normal term for plate contracts? Does anyone do a 1 or 2 year contract? We are getting ready to sign a plate agreement but leadership is not comfortable with the 3 year term. Please post your thoughts.

Our contracts have been for two years, with a clause that will allow us to break the contract without penalty if we find a product that is better during our contract period.

Is the consumable contract being used to pay off hardware, in addition to the plates?

Is the contract dependent on you exceeding a specified volume each month of the contract?

Is the price of the plates set on the length of the contract – and if it was shorter, would you be willing to pay more for the plates?
