    Default Indesign Data Merge Problem

    Hi,

I am having a problem with a large data merge in INDESiGN.

We are trying to setup a datamerge to print on DLE cards with different addresses and names.

    eg:

    Miss Jane Doe
    Unit 1
    123 Test Street
    Auckland
    1234

Our problem is that some of the addresses do not have a unit number
but we dont want the gap that it leaves. Also if the street number only has one digit it leaves a space which we also dont want.

Is there an easy way to fix this?

    Data Merge in InDesign CS3

If you use the "remove blank fields" checkbox in the merge, it should remove empty fields...it may preview wrong, but the final merge should work as intended, the link above contains an example archive that contains native files (.xls, .csv, .indd before/after merge).

If you supply a short section of your database file, the list may be able to help you better!

    Hope this helps,

Remember too that you can always use the find and replace tool which can drag out any other undesirables such as double spaces, thats the advantage of using data merge over xmpie for these jobs
