indesign CS5 problem or...
Not sure if this is a problem or if they changed things in Indesign CS5. I create a square box (CS5) and then use the "pen" tool to add 2 points so I can slightly adjust the box to fit how I want it. Normally when I do this I can use the "direct selection tool" and just adjust each point however I see fit. Well the problem is in CS5 it does not move an individual point, but moves the entire line completely ignoring the points I have added. Below are 2 screen shots of basically what I am trying to accomplish (done in CS4)

Not sure I am understanding the problem. I get the pen and direct select to work just as I expect.
when you select a point your ditect select arrow shows a tiny hollow square, like and unselected point.
If you miss the point and selact the line you should see a line, almost like a back slash at the bottom right of the arrow. There are alternate strategy if you want the square corner.
Could you not do that with:
a) corner effects
b) pathfinder subtracting a smaller square?

Could it be you are doubble clicking?
look at how many points are selected (filled in). Is it just the one selected or all points?
As I say I am getting it to work fine

I did check that, as with CS4 it normally has them all selected and need to click away then back on again to get just one. Its very frustrating as I only have the problem in CS5. I get it to work on the odd time, and thats random. I try and reproduce it but cant. This is a fresh install of CS5 as well, I had the same issue on my old MacBook Pro. Got a new MacBook Pro and installed from scratch, same thing. Its driving me nuts.

This may be a short term solution, and I'm sure you've already tried it, but did you do a marquee selection of the point using the direct selection tool?
By the time I walk out of here, I'm going to be a lean, mean, prepress machine...

Got this from adobe. I can't verify, we don't have CS5 yet. New feature in CS5:
Path and point highlighting
When you hover over a page item with the Direct Selection tool, InDesign displays the path and display the path points. This feedback makes it easier to view the path point you want to manipulate. You no longer have to select the object with the Direct Selection tool and then select the path point. You can simply drag the point you want.
