CS5.5 saved down to Illustrator version 8

might be completely unrelated but there is a known issue with Lion

In Illustrator CS5 and CS5.1, the option to save or export is disabled in the Save As Or Export dialog box if the save location is the desktop. See Save/Export button is disabled on OS 10.7 | Illustrator CS5/CS5.1.


My experience is that diemakers often use software that can import from Adobe Illustrator EPS with v8 compatibility, (the v8 being important because this is the last version that did not support transparency)

Your post contains a lot good info, but you are wrong on one thing: "Illustrator 5.1 (the version that comes with CS5.5)" can't be right. The Illustrator application that comes with the CS3 Suite is version 13. So the one in the CS5.5 Suite must be even higher.

You're right though I should have written it as "Illustrator CS5.1". That's what Adobe calls the version of Illustrator that ships with Creative Suite 5.5. Internally it's version 15.1. Creative Suite 5.0 ships with Illustrator CS5 or version 15.0.
