Default Integrating a digital workflow into Apogee

    Hi all,

We are in the process of acquiring a traditional offset shop that is using apogee in there prepress. They are heavily invested in Apogee and we would like to use this as a way to streamline our workflow. I have 5 Digital copiers at 2 locations connected to our home office via VPN for our point of sale system, I would like to have a file go from design to printdrive and then be able to send it to Office 1 B&W office 2 Color etc. Is this feasible.

Currently we have a mix of canon and Xerox digital all using Fiery front ends. We are looking at replacing our bizhub 6500 and I would love suggestions on suggested RIP's I have found Fiery to be a little more buggy than it used to be so I don't have a problem with switching.

My understanding is they have latest version of apogee and a service contract but, at this point I'm not sure what questions to ask.

I know you can do this in Prinergy so I imagine it can be done in Apogee. How exactly I can't say though sine I haven't seen Apogee in years.

PrintDrive would not be the way to go. Having an ExportTP (task processor) or some type of proofer (PDF or PS) in the workflow would be preferable. PrintDrive manages screened rendered tiffs for platesetter output and can manipulate those for other direct output (down sampling rendered output for digital dyluxes). You would point your Export/proofer flows to the printer queues of your printers. The nice thing is the Apogee trapping (PDF trapping) is preferable to most digital printers built in trapping. In another life I used this setup for iGens. The ExportTP can save in a location or FTP files using the parameters you have set up. Call your Agfa salesman and they can pull the system specs and recommend how to do this. Hope this helps.
