Carriage bearings and encoder do not cause the image expansion.They will cause lines on the plate. Not to mention Auto exposure and edge detect might be effected. As the matter of fact Carriage bearing hardly need to be replaced. Bearings and encoder were the cause of the image expansion. Not even one of them. Both of them were defective at the same time. I believe you.
The most important part was the resolve of the problem.
