GCR and System Brunner ?????

We are a short run heatset web printing operation who will be making our first venture into closed loop color this fall. We are installing a new state of the art heatset web with all the bells and whistles....and want to take advantage of the capabilities this new piece of equipment offers....

Our prepress is run with a Rampage workflow, and we use Agfa Amigo no bake plates.

So here is our goal:

We plan on running GCR on all products produced off the new press. We also will be running QTI with system Brunner Instrument Flight. Our desire is to run GCR for the ink saving benefits and also to reduce the casting that comes from 4 color printing. We plan on running to gray balance with Brunner.

Our files will be converted to GCR via Rampage Ink Drop but what should we do with our color bar???? So should we run GCR on it or let it run linear?

Is anyone out their currently running this way...GCR +_and_+ Brunner??? Is there any known issues or things we should look out for???

About your plan to run GCR and Brunner, do you plan to use simple ICC profiles with Rampage InkDrop or use ICC Device Link?

If you plan to use ICC DeviceLink profiles, you need a software to create such profile. I want to let you know that PerfX DeviceLink™ will be available very soon for Mac and PC.
It will allows to create ICC DeviceLinks profiles AND customization of the black generation with a new GCR algorithm (from TGLC inc.) which allows to preserve color saturations in shadows when using low ink coverage. Also, many options to preserve many specific color attributes of the original document.

Many test has been produced, newspaper included, with very good results compared to other profiling software providing basic DeviceLink creation and poor color rendering in the shadows area when using very low ink coverage.

Also, Rampage InkDrop is compatible with ICC DeviceLink profile.

System Brunner uses its own color bars.
Applying any kind of color management to those color bars would defeat their functionality.

Would the workflow work if the single pages were run through InkDrop, not the imposed flats with the color bar?
