Epson 7900 using efi 4.1

We have Epson 7900 and we are using EFI 4.1. I am new in Color Management...

What will I choose in Device Type? there are three selection EPSON STYLUS PRO 7900(PX-H800)CT, EPSON STYLUS PRO 7900(PX-H800)HT, & EPSON STYLUS PRO 7900(PX-H800)RGB.

I tried using EPSON STYLUS PRO 7900(PX-H800)CT and my resolution is 720x720 and my printmode is 1440 x 1440 dpi/super. But I still have to optimize to reach my target Isocoated V2.

What settings will I use so that i will no longer have to optimize.

CT is for contone proof, HT is for Halftone Proof (screened proof, dotproof) and RGB is RGB. In EFI as in CGS Oris you define how do you want to print from the start. In gmg you do that after the contone is matched to your target (ISO Coated).

Thanks for the reply...you mean MX3? but in efi after creating the output device, (the measurement of ink limit & etc.) You will only select a workflow. No need to optimize.
But everytime I calibrate Epson 7900 I always have to optimize...

In Epson 7800 & 9800 i always have a successful calibration without optimizing.

no I mean after you are happy with MX4 you will make MX5 if you want to print screened proofs in gmg. I am not sure what you mean by optimize. I have no experience with x900 series Epsons in efi but I don't expect to be different than any other printer. Can you describe all the steps you do? If you setup new paper/printer/resolution/print mode you must always:
1) create base lin, 2) create media profile (if you have Color Manager option) and 3) optimize profile for proofing condition (ISO Coated in your case)

Only the step 1 & 2.. i did not do step 3
I did step 1) Create Baseline
then step 2) Create Media profile..

thats it! then all i did in system manager is create a workflow isocoated v2 (offset)
I did this in EPSON 9800 & 7800

But in Epson 7900 i created a 3cc(optimize profile)..

first... the answer of your question by stargate is not correct.

CT is for cotone.. correct BUT.. that means, EFI sees your printer as cmyk device and you only do linearization for cmyk channels.. the cotone driver in the printer deals with the light inks and the black inks!!!..

HT is for halftone.. correct BUT.. that means that the printer does NOTHING and YOU linearilize all channels inkluding light inks.. supposed to be more work. and maybe better results..

RGB is a new feature so u can use the printer as RGB device like you usually do when not using a RIP..

so THat is to answer your question.

by reading a lot of threads here i dont think its too uncomon to optimize the profile.. even a couple of times.. for my z3100 i used 4 circles to bring the delta E from 2.5 to 1...

I did it...

I used EPSON STYLUS PRO 7900(PX-H800)RGB.

The result was great.. Max. peak all patches was 2.25

I didn't even optimize.. Thanks!
