    Smile Proofing Paper Selection

How does a Pre-press dept. decide which proofing paper to use and if a background tint is needed on the proof?

P.S. I work in the pressroom, keep it simple.

    Thx

    Hello CKL.

If the paper being proofed does not match the proofing paper precisely in terms of brightness and shade then typically you will see a paper simulation in the proof. Use a paper that matches the paper you are proofing and the tint goes away. To simulate paper the proofing stock must be brighter than the stock being proofed so the proofer can add ink to make the simulation. There are other factors but that's the jist of it.

    Regards,

You should also try and make sure that the optical brightening agent content is similar between proofing and press paper.

    best, gordo
