Default Anyone have any info on Cobalt 4 System

We are looking at several ctp systems. Just wondering if anyone had any experience or information on the Cobalt 4 system? We run 4 up mainly 2 color, occassionally 4, will this system work. Is it reliable? Thanks

You will get more and better replies if you change your headline to "Anyone have any info on the Cobalt 4 system?"

The way you have it, many who do have such info may not even read your post, and many of those who read it but don't have the info will feel taken advantage of. Abandon the approach of tricking readers into viewing your post.

OK, but notice that it is still showing up with the same headline. I think you need to take out the period. After making the effort to edit your post, you should check to see that the edit turned out as you had intended, otherwise why bother?

We had a Cobalt system up until about 6 months ago. It worked just fine. In the 3 years we had it, we only had PM's performed so it was a reliable unit. We sold it to someone who had a unit and needed a second one. We bought another facility and inherited their entire prepress dept. Having a great workflow though, is the majority of having a CTP system work well. We have been using the Artwork Systems Nexus workflow for nearly 10 years and love it. We actually have an extra complete Nexus workflow for sale if your interested. We paid a fortune for it and will sell it for a steal.

Hi, I repaired this system for few years. It is a reliable mid- range system. It is trouble free with minimum repair and maintenance. Is your system polymer or silver halide?
I know the machine inside out.

Thanks for your replies. Just a couple more questions. What do you mean by Mid-range system? What are its pros and cons? Did either of you ever have problems with laser performance as far as consistency? I have read other forums that talked a little about consistency problems. Thanks again.

It all depends to your expectancy, your customers' expectancy, # of Plates /day, and the type of service you are planning to provide. The question here what cobalt is compared with. Do you have another CTP in mind to compare with? Laser inconsistency is a big topic in CTP systems. It isn't a general problem assigned to Cobalt Laser System.

As Cobalt is Internal Drum, I suggest manual loading the system with Gloves under yellow light is an issue for operators, specially when you want to align the plate inside the drum with the left sensor. You can contact Cobalt, I heard they added Autoloader.

Air bearing scanner, internal drum imaging, linear motion accurate to 1 micron, electronic
and 3 years warranty on parts are some of the positive points of this system.
