Ripit Imagesetter...Cover open error message.

Our Ripit has started displaying an error code randomly, stating that the cover has been opened. It does this during imaging. Any clues?

That means - the safety interlock has a bad contact. Check doors/covers where interlocks installed.
The purpose of interlock is just to avoid a laser beam exposure to person's eyes when door/cover is open and to switch OFF the laser module.
PS I'm not Ripit rep, that's just from my common sence.

I am a certified "RipIt" tech and your error could mean more than just an interlock circuit.
