    Default Nexpress Streaks...

Has anyone been successful at running solids on a Nexpress without the srteaks?

    Nope...

Mainting print quality on the NexPress means big $$$s on ORCs.

    Nicholas:
Where do the streaks come from? Previous images on the belt? Do they still appear when the conductor belt is new? Is it toner or fusing oil? Is it worse on coated paper than uncoated paper?
What ORC's do you change to make it more uniform? What does Kodak say the problem is?

There is no straight answer. Streaks could result from so many things; I could start to list them but it may take an hour.

You get great results if you replace everything in one go.

I have worked in digital print for 6 years...........Unfortunately streakes are a common problem in digital print, especially on large solid areas.

What we tend to do is add noise to a problem tint, this will give you a better print result.

We've tried that and it works to some extent on some occasions. But you are right it's just something you have to deal with and train your customers...

It would be well worth it for digital printers to send 'designing-for-digital' booklets to their customers.

Our marketing department doesn't seem to think so, however. So we still get solid colour jobs. Oh well...

    Dan:
What do you mean by "adding noise?" Just more design elements to distract the eye or some click and drag thing?

    He probably means in PhotoShop.

The most effective by far is adding +texture+. These you would accomplish by placing pictures in the background. Pics of brushed steel, satin, green grass etc. all work very well to eliminate streaks. Obviously, this is a decision that the designer must take.

Streaks, by the way, tend to show up like a sore-thumb in close-up skin-tone shots. Watch out for them.
