Digital Printer for a start-up design shop
We have a small pre-press & design shop near New York. We are working primarily for Educational publishers. We have Epson 6500 digital printer for color proofing. We are planning to update this. IKON has suggested two printers
1)Ricoh MP C6000 & 2) IKON CPP550.
Our print run is around 2000 to 3000 pages in a month. The pages are highly design oriented with illustrations, photographs etc.
Can someone suggest which should I choose? Are there any other suggestions besides the two?

Call Xerox and ask for a DocuColor 242 with CREO front end (there are other RIP options too). You can use it for proofing as well as for your short runs.
