Default Konica Minolta: Color Centro Calibration

    Hello,

I am new to digital printing environment and have just got my Konica Minolta C6000 with IC 601 controller.

My confusion is basically how device calibration works using Color Centro. While calibrating the device we print a step wedge generated by Color Centro and measure it using i1 pro my confusion is there are two calibration curves that can be generated using Color Centro first "Coat" second "Uncoat" what does these settings indicate and are they different? How does the device know which curve to use while printing, as there seems to be no settings to choose the curves in the print dialog options? Are these curves being used (at the hardware level) even when we turn off all colour management functions in the print dialog options to maintain consistent hardware behaviour independent of colour management policies?

    Regards

While I do not have that particular machine, I have run KM boxes in the past.

The "Coat" curve is calibration on Coated papers. "Uncoat" is for uncoated papers. You do not manually select which curve to use, it is based on the paper selected for the job (whether it is loaded as coated or uncoated). When you print and scan the patches on uncoated paper, it *should* only update the curves for "Uncoat" and visa versa for "Coat".

    Hope this helps.

Thank you for your input. I also thought the same but at any given point of time only one curve seems to be registered with the controller either Coat or Uncoat. This confusion is basically because nothing is visible to the user...

Take a look under Expert Color settings, there is a drop down tab that will allow you to switch to various color profiles.
