IPF 8000 used up all the ink

We bought a used IPF 8000 and used After Market ink for its test run. We used a
syringe to add ink to the cartridges that came with the plotter It ran through
all the prompts just fine.
Then when we chose the "bypass this step" option for the step that announced
that the machine couldn't recognize the ink that we were using, the ink system
went haywire and all 12 cartridges were drained
with the ink rushing into the reservoir cartridge.
We were told that after-market inks can ruin the print heads and cause
malfunctioning, but this ink came from a reputable manufacturer (Lucid). Was our
problem not injecting the ink into the cartridges that are manufactured by Lucid
and recommended for use with their inks?
If we use their recommended cartridges (with new chips, of course) do you think
that will take care of the problem?
Does initialization often use up 130 ml of ink?

I can definitely tell you that the machine should not eat up 130 ml
Your initialization should use up very little ink, just enough to move through the lines
Were did you get this used from? I know moving can damage these things if not moved properly/carefully. We had some issues (new from cannon) with our 8300, where the machine would stick in initialization mode and just dump (cannon) ink into the waste box.
this was due to among other things a damaged print head.
