Default Some color will print, some won't on KM6501 Creo

    Hi All.

I'm trying to print a certificate through the Creo on my KM6501. Although it comes out looking nice, it's not printing the grey or blue text, it comes out as black. It's printing the gold seal, but all the text is black. I've previewed it at the Creo, and it looks fine, the colors are all there, just not printing in color.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks,
    Cathie

Make sure there isn't something to the effect of all colors as black checked if you are printing from acrobat??

Hi Craig. I checked that first. The problem has to be in the Creo RIP - it looks fine in the Creo preview, both the Acrobat version (before it's ripped) and in the Creo preview (after it's been ripped). I'm getting some color - the seal is gold - so it's got to be something with the text.

However, the client decided it didn't matter and accepted the job the way it was. I'd just like to know if anyone has experienced this problem and what they did to correct it.

I'm also wondering if the blue text is so dark that it just looks black, but it doesn't seem that way, even with my glasses on. :-)

I know with our Fiery sometimes printing from a PDF does weird things, so we just import right into the rip. Its been a while since I've used a creo..but I seem to remember them having an import function

Yes, Emtri, it does have an import function and I've used it on various occasions. I was going to try that next, then the client accepted the job and I didn't try it. I might just for giggles today.

The other thing I can think of is that the PDF has those colours saved as Spot Colours so even though it looks blue the machine is thinking its another colour?

On your Creo, should be a setting under quality tab for PS overprint on or off. Change from default and re-rip. Worth a shot. This works on my Xerox Creo Spire in some cases. Other times I just open PDF in Ill or PShop and resave, then resend. Creo does a good job of printing PShop PDFs, so dont be too worried about losing quality. Do a test and you shall see. Good luck!
