Default c8000 sensor fault / design fault - any experience of how to fix this?

We're generally happy with our K-Ms, but are having an intermittent and recurring problem with the c8000 model that our service provider is struggling to fix.

There are some sensors located below the toner housings and these become faulty as toner falls on them. The problem this causes is a colour shift, sometimes within a job. There are no errors or warnings and the calibrations continue as if there was no fault, however you end up with a stack of faulty printing. Sometimes it's a really noticeable shift and sometimes it's more subtle.

Our service provider currently has no fix except to strip and clean each time. I can't believe that there isn't a better fix already for this and wanted to ask if any worldwide K-M people, or other c8000 users have any more information?
