What is Prryolidone?

Does anybody know what Pyrrolidone is? I think it is used in inks and fountain solutions. I have not seen it on any MSDS sheets. If it is used in our industry it must less than 1% volume of the product so it doesn't have to be listed on an MSDS sheet.

We have never had pyrrolidone in our facility. Many manufacturers use it in inks and fountain solutions. Does any of the Fogra approved chemistry have Pyrrolidone in them? I would bet so.

Isn't pyrrolidone a decoupler. Using it at high concentration say over 40% it has the ability to turn polymers and plastics into a goo. At very low concentration say under 1% over a few months it will make most types of polymers hard and brittle and or gooie. This would help in the explanation of seals going bad in the German press fogra post.

Sustainable very good point on the seals. I checked with our chemistry and wash supplier. They informed me that the EU REACH information is on our MSDS sheets.

EU REACH (ECHA) - Substances of Very High Concern None of the components in this product are listed.

This means that there are no EU REACH Substances of Very High Concern in the product.

I will certainly continue to buy our press rooms supplies from BestChem & Supply. Knowing that they meet EU REACH Specifications along with all of the US MSDS regulations makes me feel pretty good about our choice of suppliers.
