    Default Nexus and memory management

Okay, I'm an IT guy, not a prepress guy, so bare with me. We're running a Windows 2000 Server machine which hosts Nexus software for rips. There's a client app on a mac that passes the data through to Nexus. We recently had to replace the power supply in the machine. The computer was freezing up all the time, now it is not. We decided, since it's an ugly rack mount that's a pain to get back in, that we'd upgrade the RAM while we were replacing the power supply. All is well according to Windows, showing all RAM chips. However, from the Mac client software, we can now only use just over 600 MB of RAM, or 16% of the available RAM. I guess previously, we could use 70% of available RAM (which might drop to 35%, since we've doubled the RAM). However, only allowing 1/4 the total RAM usage. Any ideas from you Nexus experts?

Just an FYI, Nexus no longer officially supports Windows 2000 for anything past Version 8.6. So if you go to version 9 your are gonna have to be running Windows Server 2003 or later.

    rando,

Within each workflow there are some modules that allow you to change the amount of RAM each module is able to use. To know what to put in for the value. I would create a new workflow as a test and find out the amount of RAM it has assigned. Use this value for the other workflows.

Thanks, am aware of that. We're currently running 8.6. We're thinking about our upgrade path now.

Okay, are you talking about accessing the Nexus from the client software on the Mac, or is there an actual interface on the server that allows me to modify those modules? I remember seeing some modules on the Mac, but the only place we saw memory listed, the memory was not changeable. Bare with me, I'm not a user of this software, just a tech support guy trying to help the users.

    Default Problem solved.

Okay, the prepress guy talked to support and got the settings working. Thanks for the assistance.
