    Default Harlequin Rip?

    Does anyone use a Harlequin as the Rip for a CID? Can you write 1-bit tiff files directly to Grapholas?

    Default I bit TIFF Len files

    Hi Doug,

    While I am sure we can consume 1 bit LEN files, I am not sure if we can write them (not sur if this is a licensing issue or a 'proprietary TIFF' issue similar to AGFA PrintDrive TIFF files.

    looking at this link ; --> PlatePrep: functionality overview

    It seems to indicate that PlatePrep accepts and TIFF, so, if you were able to RIP to TIFF, it seems like you could use a Harlequin RIP - We sell a RIP to TIFF solution ( Compose Express RIP) - a Harlequin based RIP that we licence with our partners at Global Graphics.

    However, as for as our web site indicates, I do not see any drivers for the Grapholas listed here;

    --> Imagesetter / Platesetter

    I have sent a message to HK asking for information.

    yes tiff files outputted from harlequin rip will be acceptable by grapholas for sure. I used to work for a flexo company that received tiff files from prepresses, and places the tiffs in grapholas to output on an esko CDI. the only problem i had back then was that it's tricky to create a calibration curve inside of harlequin because there is no way to implement a bump curve for digital plates.

    Default CDI is ECRM

    Hi Doug,

    The report from HQ in HK is that ESKO sold CDI division to ECRM about two years ago, it is a Harlequin based solution -- have you tried to reach out directly to ECRM ?

    As you are RRD, they may work with you directly - otherwise, please feel free to contact us.

    I see that Xitron (a competitor of Compose Systems) does list drivers

    Hi All,
    I am a Product Manager at EskoArtwork. Just want to correct the message from Michael above. EskoArtwork did not sell the CDI division - these Flexo CTP devices are still sold by us and are made at our factory in Itzehoe, Germany.

    Regards,
    David

    HQ in HK may have been referring to the sale of the DPX polyester plate line from Esko to ECRM back in 2006. And yes, an Esko CDI with Grapholas can be setup to accept 1-bit TIFF files from any rip.
