cutting business cards

Hi guys,

I'm trying to price my options to cut high volume business cards (250k cards a day)... so - if for example we print on 13x19 uv-coated 350gsm 16pt, 25up... and we need a simple reliable fast speed cutting, minimum 50 sheets / minute, with as much automation and as little operator. Let's say we are not worried right now about sorting. It just have to take a huge stack (250 minimum sheets) and just quickly cut it. On a wish list - some sort of the on the fly print shift correction...

so the only 2 options I was able to find is Duplo-745 (but lacking speed), and some kind of a Rollem system (but was not able yet to determine model and options).

But those solutions are roughly rounding $100k and $150k respectively...

does it really take $150k to cut business cards??? are there alternatives?

new xerox 800/1000 and Duplo 300a uv coater - are they friends?

Hi guys,

just wondering if anyone has experience with how well the Xerox 800/1000 output covers with uv gloss coating, specifically with duplo uv coaters (like the 300 series). Does the toner covers well?

and another q on duplo 300a - can it handle 16pt 350 gsm paper on both sides just well?

and lastly had anyone recently got a quote on the duplo 300 uv coater...? what's the ball park? I'm interested in offline setup with an air suction feeder (no bridge to get inline with a printer)

Thanks all!

Opinion/Advice on turnaround time for binding booklets

We are a large color digital printer and we print many booklets that need saddle stitching (most of them bleed). Right now we have two part timers that I pay minimum wage and they literally sit there most of the day putting pre collated booklets through by hand on our small duplo 120 booklet maker (its on the verge of going).

I know it sounds odd but I am going to purchase a new booklet maker but I am not sure if I should purchase two towers with it. I do not have a full color press for larger print runs. 95% of my saddle stitched booklets are 750 quantities and below. I feel like investing $45,000 (estimating) on two towers may be a waste of money for me. My question is.. how long do you think it will take to SETUP and bind a 52 page booklet, 250 and 750 quantities through both of your towers on your duplo and or standard horizon? I am sure it will be faster than putting in a pre collated set by hand but I am not sure if the math will workout in my favor when I hire part timers at minimum wage putting in small quantities by hand. Its not like I am doing 2,000 or 5,000 or 10,000 run saddle stitch booklets.

Bourg BB2000 Perfect Binder Issues - Need Help

Greetings all. I'm looking for some help / advice

I have a Bourg BB2000 Perfect Binding machine.

It is currently "stuck"

I was binding some books this morning and the carriage is "stuck" on the far right side of the binder.

It went through the process of scoring and gluing the paper, then went into the "clamping" stage and then just stopped.

Normally it will stay in the clamping stage for about 7-8 seconds, then releases the book and then the carriage will return left to the "home" position to begin the process all over.
*
Is there a reset or a switch I need to depress to force the carriage to return to the home position?*

Thanks in advance for any help and tips on this issue.

Polar EMC 92 memory saving problem - Please help

I got a problem with newly arrived polar EMC 92 (memory card detachable machine, with 99 programs and 999 cuts, white color buttons with lamps inside)

Its a weird problem and have never came across like it before. That is, "the cut sizes are not saving". the weird thing is, when I press the Record (The "Dot") button, its not saving the size and not giving any error message too. just like I've not press the button. I checked the button contacts and its ok. the memory card is recognized by the CPU. the leftmost display is showing [1 0]. I can change program number with P+ and P- but not the cut number with S+ and S-. there seems no any burnt ICs, it seems the software purposely not saving the sizes. (its somewhat like saving function is turned off) all other functions are working fine (clamp, blade, positioning, etc...)
what will be the problem? anybody came across with this kind of problem before?

and I'm also curious about the two switches on the N-KB card. could not figure out their functionality.

Please help me and I'm very helpless.

Thanks in advance
