    Default Bad color conversion for DeviceCMYK images

    I'm looking for a work-around to a problem with converting DeviceCMYK images to gray. The rip produces gray images with any value darker than about 40% as straight black.

    I can get correct conversion by assigning the output intent profile directly to an image in the PDF, but I'm looking for a hands-off fix. Could I have caused this behavior with settings somehow? Is there any way around it?

    Using 8.3. Not using ColorPro for this hot-folder. Not overriding icc.
