Default Postage Ink on Matte Finish smearing...

I am not sure if I am in the right forum for this question - if not, please feel free to tell me.

I work in an organization that sends postcards out on a day to day basis with first class postage. We now have a Pitney Bowes DM900. The postage is smearing on the side that it is being printed on and then, when stacking, smearing onto the face of the next postcard.

We have been told by our print vendor that the paper stock they are using is not the issue.

I have since gone onto the Pitney Bowes site and seen others complaining of this same problem.

Is it the printer? Is it the ink Pitney Bowes supplies? Where do we start?

Thank you for any insight you may have!

Are you using solvent based or water based? Switching to solvent based may very well solve this for you.

Matte stock is always more likely to rub than gloss coated stock. Try running some gloss coated stock through your machine and report back if that change makes a difference.

are you trying to imprint postage over a coated or varnished piece? If so you might want to be sure that the coating or varnish your printer is using is wax free. Suggest a prime coat aqueous, or a fully wax free varnish if their varnishing the piece. If its a UV coating their using i dont know what to tell you because im not too familiar with the process. Good luck and let us know!!!
