    Default Kodak Prinergy

My company and I are evaluating different workflows and I have a question for current Kodak Prinergy users. We produce flexible packaging using film and do not have a workflow at the moment. My question is what do you like about the Kodak workflow and what don't you?

I only used it for about a year, but I really loved it (have since moved to another shop and I miss Prinergy terribly!). For me, it was just a very well-thought-out workflow with tons of flexibility. Everything made sense. Training in Rochester was top-notch - after 4-1/2 days of training, I left feeling like an expert. Even the Help menus are really nice and very thorough.

I'm currently a Prinergy user and I think the workflow is great. Every shop has it's own needs though and you really have to go over all the features to make sure that you are going to get exactly what you want. There is almost too much functionality at times and I'm always finding new ways to do things. Some features are extra and not part of the standard install.

Just make sure that you get the support contract for the first little while. It will take a bit to get things set up the way you want them, and without a contract Kodak charges by the minute with a minimum 30 minute block per call.

Getting trained is a must as it's just too hard to try to drop yourself in and try to figure it out on the fly.

    Hope that helps.

Also do yourself a favor and review Nexus and eveluate it compared to Prinergy. It worked well for me and cost 1/2 as much when bought as a stand alone product from Esko.

I'm currently a prinergy user. I also have quite a few years with artpro/nexus and packedge/backstage.

You need to take a look at your client products carefully. Are they simple files with a need to push alot of files thru it. (with workflow flexibilities, prinergy strengths) ...Or are they 9 colors and up files that need extensive multi-round editing and trapping with access to the latest flexo screening technologies. (esko/artpro strengths) ...caveat, people will tell you that you can edit trap in pitstop. But it really can't hold a candle to esko/artpro trapping and editability.
