Introduce Myself

[Joe Tilghman]

Hi my name is Joe Tilghman I live in Charlotte, NC. I had been in some kind of printing since I was 13 now 64. Worked in my dads job shop, hand set type, ran a Miehle verticle and a Kluke for some of you who remember those.

Joined the US Navy served on a ship that had a linotype machine and worked in a large naval print shop where I ran a 22x34 Harris and a 44x60 Miehle sheetfed.

Next gig was at a newspaper in Norfolk, Va. started in the trenches cold type pasteup wax and layout sheets. Moved to first video display terminals before it was called desktop publishing. Became shift supervisor then finally prepress manager/advertising support manager. Managing a page design team, order entry team, digital ad processing and photo retouch department using mac/photoshop and Intellitune. That lasted 37 years I now handle mail for a banking institution.

married 26 years 2 sons and a daughter who is deploying to Afghanistan next month.
