this is old
Hey Francois,
We have a Rotoman 40 press that was installed in 1985. I am one of the electricians that keeps it running. Over the last year we have had to replace two of the PLC Cards and the PLC Power supply. If the PLC was to fritz out altogether would we be able to replace it with anything?? or would we have to replace the press??
We really need a contigency plan in case something happens.
Cheers

Good morning Latham,
On your Rotoman, do you have a Simatic 5 or 7? You will not need to replace the press, just the PLC system. However, because that machine's PLC has an old processor, you may need to start planning a contingency plan. We have provided solutions for this type of issue in the past and it can go very smoothly when anticipated. When the machine is down is not the right time. Very important: make sure that you have a copy and backup of the existing program now, and keep them in a safe place.
Generally speaking, replacing one or two I/O cards and even power supplies is not unusual for a machine of that age. You can contact me directly for an evaluation if you so desire. Where are you located?

We are running Simatic 5. I was talking to my supervisor about it and he said that because our PLC was running a VDU the program would have to be re-written. We are based in New Zealand
-
VDU as in Visual Display Unit? Not sure why you would have to "rewrite" the whole program. Most likely we would have to install a new interface with the plc., perhaps a new operator interface. Because I am located in the USA, I cannot pay you a quick visit (Unless you really insist and pay for it). Therefore I suggest that you contact a PLC specialist (not a PLC manufacturer), someone that does what we do, provide field solutions and upgrades. We have delivered very similar projects to some of our customers here in the states and had very few problems that we could not eventually solve. Good luck.

Rol 505 issue with unit 1
Hello
We are getting an issue with unit 1 of our roland 506 (2004)
We get an error on the computer:
5672 - Positioning drives communication error
(faulty communication)
When you go to the Service menu on the computer, in the screen where you can zero the drives, you can zero all the units except unit 1 and you get an error again trying to zero them
As a consequence of this we can not change the side guide on the press
any ideas
-
Sounds like the positioning motor for the side guide has an issue. You can try to switch the drive motor with the other side that works.

Rotoman 40
Hello Francois,
We are having a problem with our infeed web guides. We have deduced that it is probably the Powersupply/regulator control card that is not smoothing the DC correctly. Do you or know of anyone that could supply us with another card??
Latham
