    Hi pgr,

Are you asking about how to price the binding and finishing of books, or about pricing other postpress ops such as cutting and folding? The difference is somewhere between driving a Jeep and a Formula 1 race car.

The easiest way to price postpress is also the most common: Setup + Cost per 1,000, with or without a minimum charge. See the attached from the forever-free Morning Flight download. That's the Jeep.

For the Formula 1 version, the one that prices bookbinding, I'd suggest Philip Ruggles book "Printing Estimating," page 617. You can pick up an older edition at Amazon for under $10.

Amazon.com: Printing Estimating: Principles and Practices (9780827338050): Philip Kent Ruggles: Books

Don't spend more than $160, though. You can get an estimating program that automates the whole booklet pricing process - printing and binding - for less.

    Hal
