How to prepress for 3D - Offset printing

i came across a book the other day which you had to read with 3D glasses (one eye has a Red filter and one has Blue). i was wondering if there is a software which does this automatically or is this done manually. Can anyone help!

I used to do it all the time in PS, it was with one of the filters you could offset the blue and red channel. It gave a pretty dam good result. I can for the life of me recall how I did it.
