Default What to know about switching from Onyx to Caldera

We are going to be switching from Onyx to Caldera and would like to hear from people who have done this. What issues should I expect? Is there anything I should know before I begin to tackle this task? Also, we are considering switching from PM5 and an i1i0 to Caldera's easy media with the total color package. Anything I should know about that? Pro's and con's about each would also be useful.

Well, what you're talking about is changing the heart of your entire operation.

There are myriad things to consider in this undertaking, not the least of which is whether to do it at all.

Fact is Onyx is a good product, and Caldera is as well. Onyx has strengths and weaknesses, and Caldera has strengths and weaknesses. It may very well be that the jump to Caldera is right for you. But it may also be that whatever issue has prompted you to consider this switch really isn't an issue that this switch will solve. Or perhaps it could be solved more effectively in some other way.

As far as Easy Media vs. PMP 5, there's no law that says--for instance--you can't get a $500.00 upgrade from PMP5 to i1Profiler. Do that and you'll have the exact same profile-making engine Caldera uses in Easy Media available to make profiles for any device driven by any RIP. And either way, you can use any reading device you choose.

Bottom line: You might want to do yourself a favor and consult an independent professional with no axe to grind either way regarding all of this before you dive in.
