I am not an expert in such stuff.

    From their website:
"Everything in Trello is secure. All traffic runs over SSL which encrypts all of your traffic. Trello is backed up hourly, so you’re in no danger of losing "

    Does that mean something?

I am by no means an expert on this either, but my point is we would be putting our stuff on their server and entrusting it to these guys.

You may want to look at EskoArtwork's WebCenter. Here's a link ---> Welcome to WebCenter: Web-based project management and pre-production approval - EskoArtwork
With WebCenter you can setup secure https: for your sites, and you can have the servers and your files onsite. You control access, account, and login permissions.

Project management software, online collaboration: Basecamp

We have customer design agencies that use ProjectPath of BaseCampHQ. It's friendly, cost-effiective and easy to use.
