Does anyone know where we can get a replacement motor besides from heidelberg?

Depends on the motor. We sent one of our Quick master motors over to a local motor shop and got it back in 4 hours. All it needed was a capacitor. If you are here in the US hardest part is going to find the metric match up you need. Look on the data plate and find out the manufacture and google it. Then call a couple motor shops in your area.

Try calling Heidelberg and asked if they know of a good shop in your area they could recommend...if not any good motor rebuild shop should be able to it find the problem...not a whole lot going on in there...
Could be Brushes, a bad Thermo switch or a short...

There really isn't a whole lot inside an electric motor to go wrong, so chances are it might be a simple fix. Unless something really bad happened, like the winding melted or a bearing sheared off, it should be repairable.

If you know anyone in oilfield maintenance, ask them where they send their motors. Oilfields go through lots of electric motors, so they should definatelly know where to get them fixed. You can also look in the phonebook under electrical repair or industrial repair.

They are custom made and cannot be purchased on the open market. There is a company out of Chicago that repairs all kind of metric motors for Heidelberg or other brands. Sometimes they can provide a loaner, depending on the type. But first, are you absolutely sure it is a bad motor? Have you had a technician or electrician confirm that?

You don't want to get a new motor, as it will be too expensive. When I worked in a printing plant that ran all Heidelbergs we never had any cases where the commutator AC motors couldn't be rebuilt at a local industrial motor shop. The best advice with these motors is to keep up on brush replacement (both main and slip ring) at regular intervals. If you wear the brushes down to nothing and the holders begin to rub in to parts, its game over and a trip to the motor shop. There should be plenty of good motor shops in CT, try to find one familiar with the German Baumuller motors- they are more common than you might think.
