Default X-Rite 408 replace NiCad batteries with NiMH? Will they explode?

Hey, I made the mistake of replacing the stock AA Nicad batteries with regular batteries and they exploded. So after ruining one X-Rite 408 densitometer I need to know if I can replace the Nicad 600mA (AA) batteries with NiMH 2450 mA batteries? I'm guessing they should be better but do not want to be sorry.

Are you switching to 2450mA batteries because AA Nicad's are not available anymore? If they are still available I would use the recommended batteries from XRite. I wouldnt mess around with an older unit by switching batteries. my 0.02c

Actually I just found the info on X-Rites site and they say the NiMH 2450 mA batteries are fine.

Just never use regular AA batteries, it makes a nasty mess when they burst.
