    Default Error when launching applications

On a MacBook Pro we get the following message when launching about 75% of applications. (Most of the Apple native apps work, so does Firefox.)

    This is the error:

The application "(null)" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "6<HP Communications><CarbonLIB><CFMPriv_imagecapture><> "

I tried repairing permissions and repairing the hard drive (booting from CD) and neither worked.

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

    Thanks-

do you have more than one user logging into the mac?

does this happen to all users or just one?
