reconfigure IP address for router?

I've got to figure out how to reconfigure our router's IP address. Can anyone get me started in the right direction?

What kind of router would be a good place to start. Which operating system it uses, what subnet is it on?

You need either a Laptop with a comport and hyperterm, or you can telnet into the router if the config allows it. Once you established the connection you need admin rights to change any config. GL
