Default Aggregating large numbers of PDF files...

We have a number of customer who face the following problem: They receive tens or hundreds of thousand of small 1-2 page PDFs that have to be aggregated in a single large print run as a single job.

From our perspective as a vendor we see an increase in the interest for this. Are others out there seeing this as well? We are also concerned that the new PDF/VT and PPML-3 standards do not adequately address what actually needs to happen to pull this off.

    Comments please!

    Thanks

PDF/VT fully supports this concept - in fact, we are talking about it right this second at the PDF/VT meeting in Berlin...

To do this today, I would invest in a high performance PDF aggregation tool to combine them all into a single PDF file...

of course, assuming these are all PDF/X compliant files (as they would have to be for PDF/VT), you also want to ensure that any aggregate follows the guidelines from the PDF/X application notes for aggregation of PDF/X files.
