Red face Fiery Formats and slow Printing

I am formatting for a customer who has a Fiery 5.0.1.15

I am using Fusion Pro to output to an optimized PDF. The Fiery RIP is soooooooo sloooooow, and turns my 4.5MB pdf into a 1.5 GB output for the printer.

Is there a better format for this rip? PPML, VPS, VIPP?

Try PPML, the Fiery can process it but it'll process the static only once. From one of their Fiery VDP guides; "Personalized Print Markup Language (PPML) version 2.2 ... an XML-based language developed by PODi, is considered an industry standard.
PPML allows the copier to store text elements and graphic elements and reuse them as
needed, making variable data jobs print faster."
