Default Roland Printers - Problems with Static

We were experiencing overspray problems when printing on polystyrene. Our printer is a Roland XJ 640. We tried cleaning the media with alcohol prior to printing. We raised the humidity levels in our print room, and made sure our machine was properly grounded. We even had a Roland tech come out and check the print heads. None of these solutions worked and the overspray problem kept happening when printing on polystyrene.

We did a little searching on the web and found out that this is a pretty common problem on the Roland, roll to roll printers. This company, Alpha Innovations, sells a kit...the Staticure wide format kit. The problem is the pull rollers that grab the media once it enters the printer. No matter what you do, these pull rollers put the static back onto the media when they grab it. The kit solved the static problems completely.

This was a frustrating problem for us, as we thought it was a problem with the printer. If anyone else with a Roland printer has some printing defects, it may be a problem with static and not the printer itself. This was a relief for us to find out.

Actually saw this product demo-ed at a Versacamm workshop I went to a few weeks ago, works pretty well from what I saw.
