    Default Roland Cj-500 problem..

We have a Roland Cj-500 which stops printing in the middle of printing process...readout window says "Illegal Shutdown" turn off power!...Would like some help to figure this out. We just got this unit about a month ago and was working just fine until a few days ago after we changed ink in it. However I do not think it is ink related problem...

    Default RE: Roland errors

Former Roland: 540v, Current Roland: XC 540MT (metallic ink, woo hoo!)

    There's several questions I have:
    1) have you updated the Firmware?
    2) do you use 3rd party ink? (if so, yes, it's **possible** 3rd party ink could be a problem)
    3) have you ever cleaned the encoder strip? OR the data cable? (use cleaner fluid)
    4) have you contacted Roland tech support?

I used to get strange "shut off" errors on my former Roland. Mostly cleaning the encoder strip was my issue. It was also replaced. Hope this helps.

    Default Roland Cj-500 problem..

Nikki, Thanks for your help! Yes the firmware been updated prior of my purchase of the unit..
and yes I am using third party eco solvent ink, since the CJ is now converted. The encoder strip been cleaned with alcohol and also all new dampers, capping station, print heads and a new pump were installed as well. I am using the same ink, same software FlexiPro 7.6 in my other unit a Roland Fj-52 which seems to work just fine. I did contacted Roland they are not sure what cause the problem other than Illegal Shutdown, which means it was shut down at the back of the unit first instead with sub power on from panel...

    Frank,

Hmmm, well ok then. You may have to replace the data cable (didn't see that one in your list). It's losing information in the middle of the print, I think.

Before I sold the SP-540V, it would shut down on it's own, making me turn off the main power, and re-powering up. As with all printers, if you're not going to use it for a couple days (ie weekend), I would shut it down completely. I have found the heating elements in printers kept in an ON position tend to fail quicker.

As another test, send a file via Roland VersaWorks to see if you get the same problem from the Production Mgr. It's a test that you can tell Roland techs you've done, if they come back with that question.

    Good luck!! -Nikki
