Toner Flaking

Anyone else having issues with toner flaking on the edges after trimming output from a Xerox DC700? We've tried many different paper types but have not gotten rid of the issue. We run all coated stocks and have tried matte and gloss.

Is there some sort of fuser problem that is prevalent in the DC700?

What paper types are you using exactly?
Does it happen on all weights?
Have you tried leaving the sheets overnight before trimming?
Have you had an engineer in about the problem?

this is a know problem but luckily there is a solution. there is a patch that has been written for the flaking problem, your tech can put it on for you or he can install software level 3.1 which has the patch in it and also fixes a few other little problems.

anyone know if there is a similar patch for the KM c6501?

I am trying to print on centura gloss cardstock and on heavy coverage the toner will flake right off the page when using the same scratch test we use for UV coating. (infact the UV and the toner came off... then we investigated just the toner, its like playing scratch and win except you loose every time!)

Never had this issue on Carolina.

Is there such thing as having the ability to change the heat balance across a fuser roller? (ie: one side is fusing the other side is not fusing as well?)

When the KM c6501 starts up, does it store or apply any kind of memory regarding the fuser? (some one mentioned this and I had never heard of this)

The C6501's had a global adjustment for fuser roller temp, but there are 3 independent adjustments for it at each edge and the center of the roller. The newer models have the ability to tie fuser temperatures to specific media names in the paper catalog but this was not available on the C6501. KM refers to the phenomenon of getting defects along the front/back edges of a sheet after switching papers (i.e., run 11x17, switch to 12x18 and see defects in the .5" margins of each side of the sheet) as "fuser size memory", and ghosting as "fuser image memory" which is likely what you saw - not applicable to your scenario however.

I know it's a worn out subject, but the fusing issues you're having on Centura are more than likely due to the fact that it's an offset paper. Carolina's offset sheets do run well with toner but it's a gamble when you're not using a digital sheet depending on the manufacturer. NewPage makes Centura, and if you want an exact replica of that sheet that is manufactured for digital, get NewPage Futura. If it's too pricey, NewPage also makes Sterling and Blazer for digital - they aren't the exact opacity of Centura and Futura but they are cheaper than Futura and shouldn't give you adherence issues.
