    Benefits of Color Management

Gordo said it best. Color Management = Efficiency = Less Waste = Higher Profits. It's that simple.

Is it time to start a Consulting Business?

Great Discussion! The management of color management is the title of someone's next book. There will always be a need for education and a need for consultancy. Knowing the details is one thing, implementing an enterprise solution is another thing. I am been in the speaking circuit for X-Rite...

What Color is a PMS Color - Really

Here are my values without measurement but just referencing 279: ColorMunki Design L*57.8 a*-4.0 b*-46.2 i1 Share L*56.1 a*-2.6 b*-49.4 Color Picker L*58.10 a*-5.0 b*-45.85 I am guessing it has to do with the library data. The data has to come from measurement data sets - most likely...

    Spot Color Delta E

5 is a bit high but then again if the client is happy with the match..... Like Gordon said, there is no industry spec especially when it comes to which Formula everyone should use. We still use DE2000. I always take my i1 and Laptop to Press Checks. We first agree along with the Art Director...

    Colour managing a Di Press...

How was the RIP set up before the ECI Testchart was sent to the DI. This will make a big difference. Essentially the RIP settings should have ICC conversions disabled and only the use of density curves characterizing ink limits and linearizion. It sounds like you have the right configuration but...

    Color management with RGB?

I agree with Ian. Epson print heads are very consistent. Most likely there is something changing your settings. If your running Windows this happens often. I double and triple check the settings always! Marc

Building an icc for DocuColor 8000 using freeflow

Peppering is when black dots replace cmy dots to product a gray component. High amounts of GCR replace CMY with K - sometimes you can see this in highlight and mid-tone areas of an output. GCR is built into all CMYK profiles since the function of a profile is to separate color from RGB or CMYK...

Building an icc for DocuColor 8000 using freeflow

The CMYK Separation Parameters in ProfileMaker will be key in generating a profile for the 8000. Too much GCR will yield peppering, to little may yield un-neutral grays because of the amount of CMY. I tend to recommend fairly high amounts GCR in the profile when profiling for the 8000. Marc

    Z6100 profile problem

The internal spectrophotometer in the Z6100 will not ready any media which is translucent/transparent. Cloning another profile is your best best. In Postershop 7 / Media Manager there is a cloning feature that will allow you to send a test file via various profiles loaded in the system. Your...

How to know if your printer is clueless when you're clueless too?

Great Discussion Everyone: Here are my thoughts: Soft Proofing in Photoshop from RGB to CMYK: I would never recommend ever using Absolute Colorimetric when soft proofing or converting RGB to CMYK because the point of AbsCol is to take the white point of the source profile (RGB) and use it as...

Pantone books for CMYK and choosing correct color profile?

Chloe, Have you asked if you could specify the color as spot even though the job will be printed as process? Most newer workflows can convert to CMYK based on a plate curve or ICC Profile in the RIP. Usually this gives the best results. The CMYK values in the Bridge are only good for a press...

quick Q about pantone to cmyk

I agree with Toronar. Change your preferences to "Lab Bookvalues" and build a custom characterization/profile of your precess. Use this profile as your working space. The spots you define will have a new CMYK value based on the profile. Marc
