Sold Out January 19 -22 Event Claims 10% Registration Uptick

This year’s EFI Connect event opened yesterday at Wynn Resort in Las Vegas, as another sold out conference, with 10% more pre-registered customer attendees than 2015. Networking and information sharing between attendees is a key highlight, with the list of Connect 2016 participants representing many of the world’s leading print businesses.

The Jan. 19-22 conference – one of the printing industry’s largest and longest-running users’ group events – features a solutions center and more than 200 technical, sales and business management sessions, including hands-on customer labs, interactive Customer sessions, user meetings and a development track conducted by InfoTrends.

During his keynote, EFI CEO Guy Gecht stressed the need for customers to “bet on changes in the market forces to accelerate.” Successful printing businesses, he added, need to move with the window of opportunity. “You must be willing to take a risk. Doing nothing is a guarantee that you will be unsuccessful.”

    Expansion of the Productivity Suite
Customers at the conference are learning how the EFI Productivity Suites improves users’ efficiency and profitability through “Suite Certified” workflows for specific segments.

EFI’s commitment to customer development and advancement is evident in the sessions. At this year’s conference EFI is doubling its Productivity Suite offerings with three new certified Suites for the quick printing, publication print and corrugated packaging segments.

Connect 2016 also features advanced EFI Fiery® digital front end and software technologies for cut-sheet digital printing, including previews of Fiery Command WorkStation® 5.8 and the newest-version Fiery JobFlow™ digital print workflow automation software.

New inkjet opportunities in ‘The Imaging of Things’
In addition to highlighting advanced workflow technologies, Connect showcases how EFI customers across the globe create profitable opportunities with innovative, high-value and high-quality inkjet imaging applications.

The Connect solutions center features top technologies in the EFI industrial inkjet portfolio, including best-selling, entry-level and new, high-end hybrid LED printers with advanced, variable-drop grayscale imaging and industry-leading white ink. The Connect 2016 exhibit floor also features versatile, roll-to-roll LED printing technology from EFI’s recently acquired Matan product line.

Attendees can see a broader range of print application possibilities within the Imaging of Things with exhibits of jobs produced on EFI’s Cretaprint® ceramic tile printers, Jetrion® narrow-web label printers and the company’s recently acquired line of Reggiani textile printers. Michele Riva, sales and marketing director for EFI Reggiani, will provide added insight into the significant opportunity in printing for fabric graphic display and industrial textile applications during a Jan. 21 keynote speech.

Connect 2016 also features numerous exhibits from partner companies, including Canon, Xerox, Duplo, 3M Commercial Graphics, AccuZIP, BCC Software, BondCote / Heytex Corp., Esko, Honle UV America, Kodak, Konica Minolta, Lintec Corp., The Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation, Progress Software and Ricoh.

The transition from electrostatic/toner printers to inkjet printing continues apace, with few observers doubting that inkjet platforms will prevail in the long term. The latest generation of production inkjet presses from Xerox, KM, and Ricoh are faster than toner-based (EP) machines and generally cost less per page for the same job. As for the color accuracy question, once the accountants and customers take a good look at total benefits, it turns out that inkjet color...

In the average week (as if there is such a thing!) how many different jobs and projects are on your plate? If yours is like many shops these days, your work in process may span offset, digital, and large format work, along with direct mail, data management, maybe some fulfillment, and even mobile communications. The deadlines are relentless, the pressure builds and the frustration mounts, at least some of the time. And then your lead sales guy comes in with...

For the past few years one of the questions I’ve gotten from print providers running toner presses is along the lines of, “How much volume should I have before I move to inkjet?” It’s an excellent query and it shows that people are thinking.

Then there are the ones who call, bemoaning their lack of foresight, saying “I bought this UltraJet C6000 and it’s costing me a fortune. What can I do?”

To be clear, there are many...

Does any of this sound familiar?

A few times each week a customer shows up or sends in a file that needs a lot of love. It’s usually work they don’t want to do (or can’t do) themselves and involves making sure a stack of pages will be professionally printed. Those pages may be a mix of original files, scans from who knows where, and a cover that needs to be updated, along with the titling on the spine. Then there are colors that need to...

    • How CHILI’S New Illustrator® Feature Plugs Into An Increasingly Automated Future

As 2019 kicks off, CHILI publish will begin rolling out a new Illustrator Plug-in for its Universal Graphics Engine platform. That news is bigger than it sounds at first.

The “native AI document conversion utility” is particularly targeted to the packaging and label industries, which, due to the greater complexity of their graphics (and the incorporation of large numbers of vector components), have historically favored the Adobe Illustrator®...

    • Why Ever Would You Want to Automate?

Why ever would you want to automate your operation? After all, it seems far too complex, costs money, involves a lot of your people, will absorb significant time, and you figure you probably don’t need it. And then you run out of excuses.

I used to work with a guy who had some 20-odd years in printing and packaging behind him. He insisted that every shop he went into had a superbly lean and extremely efficient workflow and spectacular MIS. He...
