Xerox 5000s - how high can you go??

I was chatting to a Xerox engineer and he brought up the subject of how long the kit lasts. Apparently the engineers are told that the print engine in the 250/5000 (same engine) is projected to last to about 2.5M and after that they expect that breakdowns/maintenance will become an issue.

So what's the skinny? Who's run them up over the 2.5M mark and what's been your reliability experience?

It appears that the 7000/8000 is a different beast altogether as their monthly duty cycle is 500K/750K respectively vs only 75K for the 5000??

BTW I'm not knocking Xerox, I'm happy with our kit and looking to get another.
