The Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) has announced that one of their SGP Certified printing companies, Designtex, has realized savings of thousands of dollars on more than 35 tons of recycled materials in a 1-year period. According to SGP records, the average SGP Certified facility saves $43,000 a year by following sustainable best practices.

In 2018, Designtex took action toward a zero landfill goal by forming partnerships with their vendors. By eliminating all waste—through return programs & recycling—they turned waste into profit, in these categories:
  • Packaging waste—was returned to the vendor for reuse,
  • High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) waste—returned to the vendor for reuse,
  • Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE) waste—delivered to a composite decking manufacturer,
  • Organic waste—delivered to a local composting company.
Paul Glynn—Materials Manager at Designtex—offers these tips for a program to succeed:
  • Start with a small, achievable goal,
  • Reach out to suppliers who may already have a sustainability initiative, or may be willing to create one,
  • Work with employees from all departments,
  • Design the workflow around the program so that it fits right in.
