Chromatic Technologies Inc. (CTI) has developed a patent-pending, high-pressure indicator “ink” for food packaging that provides a visual indication that High Pressure Pasteurization (HPP) has been applied to food, eliminating bacteria growth. HPP–approved by the U.S. FDA & USDA–eliminates bacteria through high-pressure. HPP can be used for organic, natural foods & pharmaceuticals.

CTI’s patent-pending technology is delivered via ink that’s printed on packaging in the normal manner. Clear when printed, the ink increases in color as it’s exposed to the very high pressures found in the HPP process. CTI’s ink is applied like all conventional inks in packaging & is available in water-based and UV cured inks. Solvent-based inks will be available in the future if demand justifies development.

In addition to health and shelf-life elongation, the immediate demand being fulfilled is for food service companies receiving perishable food shipments who need to give restaurants or grocery stores a quick visual indicator on whether they should accept delivery. CTI’s launch is an industry-first for the ink and food industries & is now available for sale.
