Kao Collins has added magnetic (MICR) ink to its product lineup. It’s currently formulated for Kyocera & HP thermal inkjet print heads, but is adaptable to work in other technologies, too.

The water-based ink—a proprietary-blend featuring metal oxide nanoparticles—has distinct advantages over competitors’, and features increased stability with extended shelf life, according to the company. The metal oxide particles are stabilized in the base chemistry to prevent settling and are attached using strong chemical bonding rather than using the weaker coating method.

Their formulation is also less abrasive, extending print head life, and can be customized up to 40% magnetic content for additional character readability and to meet higher Canadian standards.
